"Living" History

While we were in Saint Augustine, the oldest city in the country, we visited a Living History Museum. We saw and learned about life in the 17th century.


This man taught us how to load ans hoot a musket. He talked to us about the requirements to be in the militia and the importance of following commands.

This was the blacksmith's place. He demonstrated how to heat the iron and he made a handcrafted nail for us. We also saw a Carpenter, and had a look into a couple homes and what they had back then (and what they didn't have!)


This was the very friendly leather worker. He made it clear that he was not the "tanner" just the leather worker and explained the difference. He taught us how shoes used to be made and that wallets were originally for important documents and that purses were for money and that the men carried them.
