what did you do today?

I made scripture-holder-carrier-case-thingies.

Why?
Because I am always finding Noble's scriptures in the strangest places and they are always this way and that way. Sir William will be eight soon which means he will be getting his own scriptures too. So I decided on my co-op off day (no kids for THREE hours) to do this. (see picture above)
Yes, I did make my own pattern, thank you for asking.
I'm proud of myself again can you tell?
They are lined and have a thick interfacing so they "stand" on their own without anything in them. I also put a cute little pocket inside. I put their names on them too, just to try out the alphabet tool on my machine. Blue is always Noble and Red is always William, so I didn't need to put their names on them, but it was fun anyway.

Yard Tennis

I remember when we decided to build and we were picking our lot that Alec kept "walking off" the lots to see how big they yard would be on each lot. When I asked what he was doing he told me we would need "X" feet for pitching, "X" feet for tossing a football, "X" feet to play ... whatever. I paid little attention at the time. This sounded like a boys-slash-daddy thing that I had not business being apart of.

So tonight when Alec got home from work he came in and said the boys wanted to throw the football around before dark, which was Alec speak for: push back dinner I'm gonna spend sometime with my boys. When I went out to watch they were not throwing the football they were playing yard tennis. Alec was in the driveway, Liam was by the tree (they were a doubles team) and Noble was over by the ditch, and they were playing tennis. Yard Tennis, as the ball doesn't bounce on grass, our grass anyway, and they were serving and keeping track of hits, etc. Who knew? I tried to take action shots, but the distance between them and the dust sky and well, I was using the point and shoot. So you get a pose instead.

Masked Mouse

Who is this masked mouse?
He's a bandit and this was a hold up.
All for hugs and kisses of course.
And chocolate chips.

The blond hair and brown eyes are kind of a give away huh?

Road trip - repost

Some of the pix weren't coming up, so I reposted them.

We left on Thursday last week for a few days up North. We packed up the three boys, my parents, their dog and the two of us and drove all the way to Dallas-Ft. Worth. The original reason for the trip was to see the BYUvTCU game - which was SAD (more on that later), thankfully we planned other things to do as well so the trip wasn't a loss.

Grandpa and Grandmama with Star snoozing between them

What did we do before DVD players, headphones, DS's, iPods to make travel easier?

Boys fave ride - repost

Noble and Liam were really into the rides at the State Fair. It was the first time that they both were so excited about rides.
This was one of those that went up and then free-fall drop over and over.

Tutankhamun

We also went to the Dallas Museum of Art one day to see the King Tutankhamun exhibit.
Although in a different way than the fair, this too was an exceptional experience.
For understandable reason they wouldn't allow pictures inside the exhibit.

day at the fair

What's a trip to fair without Cotton Candy?

Or a caramel apple?

There were lots of cars to see and drool and dream about too.

My boys.
Was there ever so much love in the world?

YES day

As I mentioned earlier this was a YES day.
I asked Alec later if he planned from the start for it to be a yes day, he said No, but that he was glad that it turned out to be. A YES day. He said yes all day to everything that anyone asked of him
A ride? yes.
More tickets? Yes.
That game? yes.
Ice cream? Yes.
A hot dog? yes.
Another ride? Yes.
Go on the tram? yes.
Cotton candy. Yes.
Sit and rest? Yes.
Fudge? Yes.
All day YES.
No matter who asked or what they asked for.
YES.

It was a good day.
We were all happy.
YES we were.

Oh the food

What is there at the fair besides fried food?
Well, there was lots of food, and lots of it was fried.
Some of our samples are below.

Gorditas, fruit cup, funnel cake (MY FAVE), fried cheese curds, fried green beans, chocolate covered strawberries, country fried bacon, fried oreos (NOT a favorite) and dippin' dots.
For anyone that thinks this is a lot of food, why yes it is. But please remember that we were there for 9+ hours and there are 7 of us. We shared a lot. We ate a lot. We walked a lot.

Yes really, deep fried bacon. We had to try it.
And it was worth a try - but just like deep fried avocado - not worth making at home.

Some of our favorite rides

The weather was perfect. The high was 75* and it had a cool breeze with it. A perfect kind of day. Enough shade, enough clouds to cover the sun when needed, enough.
It was bea-u-ti-ful.

And it wasn't crowded.
We didn't wait in any lines at all.
We drove right up and parked our car outside the gate, we walked right up and got on any ride we wanted, played any game we wished, sat at any picnic table, rested on any bench, grabbed some grub whenever we wanted. It was delightful.
(I point all this out because it was wonderful, but the next day we were told it took two hours just to park.)
It was a GREAT day.
A Yes day.

I had forgotten just how much I love carnival rides.

The Texas Star

I love Farris Wheels.
I take a picture like the one below of every one I see.
I don't know why.
But I love this view of the Farris Wheel.

This Farris Wheel is named the Texas Star.
Because it's the size of Texas. Almost.

Texas State Fair

We've lived in Texas for three years now - this is the first trip we made to the Texas State Fair. We had a great time!!! And that, that is putting it mildly. We were there for 9 1/2 hours and the only reason we left was because we were beat tired. There was so much more to see, so much more to do, so much much more. It was a great day. A Great day. It was a yes day. Alec said yes all day. All day. To everything. Yes day.

So, the game. . .

I have to mention the game because it was the whole point of the trip to Dallas but we would all like to forget that it happened. Ugh! The game! So much rested on this game. And by losing the game we lost so much that it almost kinda hurts. The Conference Championship. The chance a BCS bowl game. And we lost, lost big, lost bad, lost ugly, lost, lost, lost.

But the happy part of the game.
We met up with Todd, Brenda and their two oldest kiddos. We haven't seen them FOREVER!
There was also 10 families from our ward that made the trek.
And about one-third of the stands wore blue.
We were the visiting team, from out of state, and one-third of of the people there wore COUGAR BLUE!

Noble was a true Cougar and painted his cheeks.
